Assignment Manual for Dahlke’s Second Edition of How to Succeed in College Mathematics (Published August, 2011)

Some college and universities used the first edition of the book as a basis for study in courses, workshops, or seminars for students, yet no assignment manual was available for the first edition. This was the impetus for creating the Assignment Manual for the Second Edition, which is comprised of exercises on the content of the second edition.

Why the Assignment Manual?

It is one thing for students to read portions of the book to seek information, and another thing for them to grapple with what they read. They need to know where they currently are as students, where they want to be, where they need to be, and how to get there. The exercises help accomplish this by asking for their opinions, thoughts, and feelings based on their experiences, what they read in the book, and their discussions with others. The exercises were constructed with the expectation that students will discuss many of them with their peers or classmates, led by a moderator—most likely an instructor.
